Day 3 – Kah-nee-ta

Quick entry — will try to catch up tomorrow. The casino where we are staying is very nice, but they’ve had internet problems.

Well, this still beats the heck out of “real work.” Today, being ‘Bike to Work’ I thought quite abit about my biking buddies back at work. I know y’all would LOVE being with me on this ride.

Today was pure heaven on a bike for me.  It was hard to leave The Mountain Resort’s — I could have stayed there for all 50 days! Tranquil and beautiful. We had breakfast in two waves this morning. The slower riders ate first — and I went with that group.  After three days, everyone’s pace is starting to get established.  For those of you who know horses, it seems to be a lot like a small herd determining its hierarchy.

Today I made a conscious decision to ride slower and at a lower heart rate. Although it is fun to ride fast and join in on pace lines, I’m afraid that it might “drain my battery” faster than I can recharge it over night. After 5.5 hours of riding today, I finished feeling good and there was still juice in the battery. My plan is to stay with my new strategy.

I got some awesome pictures today — but you’ll have to wait to see them. In the meantime, I’m sure our Fearless Leader, Mike Munk, has put up lots of wonderful photos on his account of the tour. He is a very gifted writer — I read his blog of last year’s trip as it unfolded. Check it out and see if you don’t feel like you’re riding right along with us!

More when I can get internet again….

NOTE: Had my first flat …and had to replace the tire   because whatever it was that caused my flat also slashed ‘n gashed my tire. UGH!
